Update an existing base-metal master record. Changes affect future master-data selection, so the metal identity should remain stable after it is used operationally.

Metal Code: Unique ERP code. Example: GOLD. Avoid changing established codes unnecessarily.
Metal Name: Base metal name. Example: Gold.
Symbol: Chemical symbol. Example: Au.
Default Unit: Primary weight unit. Jewellery metals normally use g.
Color / Finish: Optional descriptive colour such as Yellow.
Description: Business description for the base metal.
Display Order: Controls ordering in Metal Master and future dropdowns.
Status: Inactive keeps the record but prevents normal future selection.

Master Data Rule

Gold remains the base metal. Values such as 24K, 22K and 18K belong in Purity Master. Historical transactions should not be rewritten when a master label is changed.
